Hospital Goes Green to Light up Screven Fireworks Show

Jesup, GA – Of the $15,000 price tag to host the July 2nd Screven Fireworks Show, roughly a third of that cost will be funded by Wayne Memorial. Averaging 26 tons of recycled cardboard annually since 2008, the hospital sets aside its cardboard boxes each day that package supplies shipped to it throughout the year. Hospital Director of Maintenance and Security Joe Davis shares that with the assistance of Envirocycle of Alma and Interstate Paper of Riceboro, those 26 tons of crushed cardboard result in $5000 of proceeds annually.

Emma Lou Thompson, the hospital’s director of human resources and citizen of Screven says, “It’s our pleasure to donate these proceeds to Screven to host such a nice show for the community.” Miguel Vail, Screven City Councilman, noted his appreciation for Wayne Memorial’s nine-year partnership with the city’s fireworks show.
