Spotlight on ENT

ENT for pediatric patients focuses on common problems children face with their ears, nose, and throat. These include ear infections, fluid in the ear causing hearing loss, large tonsils and adenoids that lead to snoring or sleep apnea (breathing stoppage) frequent sore throats, and nasal blockage. Children may also have neck lumps, noisy breathing, or objects stuck in the ear, nose, or airway.

The most common surgeries are removing tonsils, removing adenoids, and placing ear tubes to treat infections, breathing problems, and hearing issues. ENTs also remove foreign objects, repair eardrums, place cochlear implants for hearing loss, and perform airway or sinus surgery when needed.

In short, ENT helps children breathe, hear, and sleep better, while also handling urgent and sometimes life-saving problems. Allergies can contribute to many of these problems. Necessary allergy testing and intervention is often beneficial to help to treat a number of these conditions that children do present with as well.
